Community Service

We partner in the annual Hills Township Dog Show as well as the SPCA1000 Paws Walk.

We hold a free Rabies vaccination clinic on Wednesdays between 8am and 12pm at the practice in Hilton. Prior booking is requested.

Dr Pachonick is involved in the Transkei Animal Welfare Initiative. She goes down to Port St John's once or twice a year for their sterilization campaigns, spaying and castrating up to 100 animals each time.

We recently did a Rabies vaccination campaign in Howick West. Percival, our kennel assistant, organized the morning for us, and we vaccinated 200 of the community’s cats and dogs. We try to do this at least twice a year, and the local Ward Councellor has asked Dr Pachonick to do some other areas under his control. We will keep you posted.

Over the course of the last four years, we have been involved in the spaying and neutering of over 100 feral cats from the UKZN Campus. We would like to thank the people who go out and trap these cats in order for them to be sterilized, and then return them to their home environment on campus. This is the only way to keep the population of feral cats under control in any environment. If you remove the cats and don’t return them, new feral cats move in, and the whole cycle starts over again.

A 1/4" tip taken off the cat's ear. This is the universal sign that a feral or stray cat is spayed or neutered.
